IV Sedation

sedation-dentistryWe offers our patients the option of Intravenous Sedation which is also known as “Twilight Sedation” for their treatment. Intravenous Sedation helps you to be comfortable and calm when undergoing procedures. Intravenous sedation or IV sedation is designed to better enable you to undergo your dental procedures while you are very relaxed; it will enable you to tolerate as well as not remember those procedures that may be very uncomfortable for you. IV sedation will help alleviate the anxiety associated with your treatment. You may not always be asleep but you will be comfortable, calm and relaxed, drifting in and out of sleep a twilight sleep.

If you choose the option of intravenous sedation your IV sedation/anesthesia is administered and monitored therefore eliminating the costly expense of having your treatment carried out in a hospital operating room.

How is the IV Sedation Administered?
Medication will be given intravenously in your arm or hand to help you relax and feel comfortable. Sometimes, for smaller children, a small pinch in the arm is used to administer the medication.

The goal of IV sedation is to relax the patient and alleviate the anxiety associated with surgery. Along with IV sedation there are also other levels of sedation available to you in our office such as nitrous oxide.

Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) can be administered though a nose piece. This is a highly effective and safe form of sedation / relaxation that can also be performed in our office. If you have any questions about these options please contact our knowledgeable staff or speak with one of our doctors at your consultation.
